Built From The Bottom
I have a confession.
This was never just about great coffee.
It is a cornerstone. But it's not the whole story.
For years I spent my life fluctuating between extreme highs and extreme lows, constantly flung around by everything that happened to me. Never realizing life didn't have to be that way. Constant stress and anxiety, always feeling behind and left behind.
I lost myself in the storm.
Then I became it.
Angry at the whole world, seeking confrontation, causing destruction left and right. I used to call myself the hurricane. I'd tear into people's lives with little to no regard for consequences.
Unchecked by spirit, the ego ran wild. I spent years chasing money, losing myself in relationships, changing jobs, moving all over the country, just trying to fill the giant chasm I had inside.
I always had to be distracted or numbed out to feel okay in my own skin.
Maybe you know how that is.
In 2013 I found myself homeless in Los Angeles. No plan, no foundation, nowhere to be. I hopped a train and landed in Southern Oregon at my dad's place. When there was nothing left to fall back on I was just grateful for the roof.
But I was definitely not okay. Still drinking, still running on borrowed time, still spending my mornings in the fog that comes from a life lived as two different people.
My dad had this thing he did every morning. He didn't announce it. Didn't post about it. He just woke up before the neighborhood did, moved into the kitchen with this quiet sense of ownership, and made his coffee like it was the most important thing happening in the world at that moment.
Slow. Deliberate. Completely present.
I watched him do it more mornings than I can count. My half-awake self sitting there, confused and feeling the distance between where he was and where I was.
It was more than mental. It was like a physical weight.
My pop isn't a philosopher. Although I'm low key convinced he is sometimes. He's a man who understands that how you meet the morning is how you meet the day. He knew something I was still years away from learning.
I got sober. Finally. Like thirteen years later. What can I say? I learn best the hard way.
About three months ago, freshly sober, I was annoying my therapist trying to figure out how to structure my morning so it wasn't just total chaos the rest of the day. I remembered my dad and those mornings in his kitchen in Southern Oregon. Connected a couple dots. Started integrating something new.
That's when I began crafting my morning.
Not falling ass-backwards into it.
The difference those 30 to 60 minutes made was life changing. Spent in that sacred stillness, I started to hear that small, nearly silent voice I'd been drowning out for years.
We're always so busy, so stressed, worrying about the future or regretting the past, we rarely allow ourselves the luxury of sitting still long enough to hear it. To feel that inner light. To carry it into the rest of the day.
The first time I sat with a cup of coffee clear headed in the early morning, no hangover, nothing pressing, no dread waiting at the bottom of the mug, no shame and no regret... I didn't know what to do with the feeling. The peace was unsettling for someone so used to chaos.
It took me a minute to recognize it.
It was just being alive.
Awakened Soul was built from that understanding. Not from a plan or a market gap or a passion for pour overs.
From the knowledge, earned the hard way, that the first cup of the day is either something you're present for or something you survive. And the difference between those two things compounds across a whole lifetime.
We work with real roasters. We source intentionally. We chose the absolute best to work with because their vision aligns with ours. The coffee is good because the coffee has to be good, that part isn't negotiable. But I didn't build this company around a roasting drum or a supply chain. I built Awakened Soul around a belief: that your morning deserves the same care my dad gave his, the same quiet attention I finally learned to give mine.
This isn't a lifestyle brand built on aesthetics. I'm not a guru. I'm just someone who lost his mornings for a long time. And then slowly, morning by morning, day by day, took them back.
That one moment. Honored in stillness before the world gets hold of you, can change the entire shape of your day.
That's what this is. That's where it came from. That's why it's called what it's called.
The bean matters. The roast matters. So does what you bring to it.
Craft your morning. The rest follows.

Awakened Soul Coffee Co.
We source from wherever in the world the right coffee grows. Colombia's
Huila and Cauca highlands.
Brazil's storied coffee belt. Ethiopia,
where coffee itself began.
Indonesia's Mandheling region. Mexico.
The origin doesn't matter because of geography.
It matters because of what
the soil, the altitude, and the grower's craft produces in the cup.
That's the only standard we apply.
